Skills Development

Overview

Concor’s commitment to skills development is realised through investment in learning and development initiatives, which aim to attract talent, develop and retain current employees and support continuous professional development. These initiatives are designed to address immediate operational needs, support the achievement of strategic goals, and contribute to the pool of skilled artisans and professionals in South Africa’s construction and mining industries, related industries.
Our Group Training Department, offers several skills development opportunities targeting current and prospective employees focused on professional, managerial, leadership, supervisory and technical skills as follows:
Graduate Mentorship Programme (GMP): This program supports recent graduates transitioning from university to the workplace. Graduate interns are paired with experienced mentors to transfer technical, leadership, and management skills over a 24-month period, including induction and training blocks. The GMP also assists with completion of portfolios of evidence required for professional registration portfolios.
Employee Study Assistance: Concor provides financial support to employees for training courses and formal education. This study assistance is intended to enhance performance in current roles and to support career growth and skills retention within the Company.
Management Development Programme: This programme is designed for employees with managerial potential or current managers seeking advancement. The program includes three levels—Next Manager, Managing for Results, and Managing Managers—through the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS)
Online / Virtual Learning Programmes: Various online or virtual learning opportunities are afforded to employees, alleviating the need for travel or extended absence from work. These include internal training focused on regulatory and compliance needs, delivered via an internal Learning Management System (“LMS”) known as Concor Classroom.
External training opportunities focus on functional needs such as Project Management, Financial Management and Human Capital Management among others, and are delivered through various identified and approved partners.

Socio-Economic Development

Overview

Corporate citizenship has been integral to our business since the 1950s, starting out with the Child Welfare Fund which was rebranded as the Sikhulisa Fund in 2017. Our Socio-economic Development (“SED”) policy serves as the conduit through which we facilitate access, create opportunities, develop partnerships, enhance self-efficacy and promote sustainable livelihoods within communities. Through our SED and Employee Community Involvement (ECI) programs, we support education and empower employees to contribute through payroll giving and volunteering.
Funding for community development projects is allocated as follows
  • Structured programmes – The majority of the budget is allocated to a small number of structured programs that are aligned with our strategic focus areas, and receive funding over extended periods. Concor prioritises education, focusing specifically on literacy and numeracy development and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (“STEM”).
  • Social upliftment programmes – Discretionary or CSI funding is allocated in support of smaller, once-off projects across a number of communities. Projects may include community health and awareness, resources in ECD centres and schools, food security, general welfare support etc.
  • Vulnerable Children – The Sikhulisa Fund  enables employee involvement through voluntary, payroll contributions and volunteering initiatives in support of orphans and vulnerable children. Funds raised through the Sikhulisa Fund and matched funding from the SED budget is allocated to charitable organisations that serve the needs and interest of vulnerable and ‘at-risk’ children across the country.
The SED/CSI budget for FY6 has been fully allocated. New applications will be accepted starting January 2026
